Sweet Potato Pie

Sweet potato pie is a favorite in our home. It was even better when we were able to harvest sweet potatoes from our garden from the first time last year and use them to make our pies.

If you love sweet potatoes and pie, this is a dessert you will want to try! Try our homemade pie crust recipe with your pie! And top this pie with some homemade whipped cream or add a little cinnamon to the whipped cream and make cinnamon whipped cream to top it off! Your family and guests will enjoy this completely homemade sweet potato pie!

Ingredients

  • 1 1 pie crust

  • 1-1/2 pounds 1-1/2 sweet potatoes (about 3 cups of puree)

  • 12 ounces 12 heavy cream

  • 1 cup 1 brown sugar

  • 2 2 eggs

  • 5 tablespoons 5 unsalted butter, melted

  • 2 tablespoons 2 vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon 1 ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 ground cloves

  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 ground ginger

  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 salt

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 425F.
    Wash and scrub sweet potatoes.
    Place on a parchment lined baking sheet (for easy clean up).
    Prick sweet potatoes with a fork.
    Bake sweet potatoes for 45-50 minutes, or until there is no resistance when a fork is inserted to the thickest part.
    Remove from oven. Allow to cool.
  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Take sweet potatoes out of the skin and measure 3 cups of flesh.
  • Put all ingredients (except the pie crust) into a blender or food processor.
  • Roll out pie crust.
    Place pie crust in pie dish.
    Pour pie filling into pie crust.
  • Bake pie for about 30 minutes or until it is puffed and firm in the center.
  • Allow pie to cool for about 4 hours before serving.
    Serve with homemade whipped cream or cinnamon whipped cream.
