Installation and Alternatives
To DIY or not to DIY
If you’re not the DIY type, you can still benefit from RO system installation. Most cities will have professionals who can install your system, ask your local plumber. You can also usually find a local service that will swap out your filters on a regular schedule, if that suits your lifestyle and budget. Whichever you choose, it’s for your health and should ‘pay dividends’ in the years to come.
Our Recommended System – APEC 6-Stage High Flow
As far as brands, we’ve had good experience with APEC. Your choice of system will come down to choice of filters, additional filters for mineralization, and flow rate. We have chosen the APEC High-Flow 90 GPD 6-stage Reverse Osmosis system for its features and affordability. It also comes with a nicer faucet than some other systems. The mineralization filter will make the flavor taste better to most peoples palates. Also consider how often you must replace your filters, it does take a bit of time to change filters. Some units will suggest every six months and other higher capacity units will suggest a yearly filter replacement.
Tankless Units
If your space is limited, consider getting a tankless unit. These will cost a bit more typically, but can be a space saver with a smaller footprint.
