I have tried many recipes to make hamburger buns and this is one of our favorites! It is a little “fancier” than the usual store bought bun, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing! I love that I can make this by hand or with my bread machine if I don’t have time! Give these beautiful buns a try!

These homemade hamburger buns are beautiful and delicious! They are light and fluffy and will make any hamburger or sandwich shine!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 1 whole milk (240 ml)

  • 2 large 2 eggs, beaten

  • 4 cups 4 all-purpose flour (480 g)

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 granulated sugar (50 g)

  • 1-1/2 teaspoon 1-1/2 kosher sea salt (7 g)

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 butter, softened (60 g)

  • 2-1/4 teaspoons 2-1/4 active dry yeast (7 g)

  • egg wash (optional)

Directions

  • Place all the ingredients in your bread machine. (*see notes)
    Wet ingredients first, then dry. (or follow the directions of your bread machine)
    Set it to the dough cycle.
  • When the dough is done, punch down and divide into 8 equal portions.
    Shape each portion into a smooth, round ball.
    Place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
    Cover with parchment paper or a damp cloth.
  • Preheat oven to 375F.
    Allow buns to rise for about 15-30 minutes while the oven is heating.
  • Brush risen buns with egg wash if desired.
    Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the buns are golden brown.
    Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a bread machine, you can still make these buns! Just follow the normal routine for making bread.
  • If you are making by hand, start by combining the warm milk, sugar and yeast and let sit for 5-10 minutes. After the yeast is activated, mix in the flour, butter, eggs, and salt until the dough forms. Knead for 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Allow to rise for 1-1.5 hours. Continue with Step 2 above.
