On our homestead, the importance of proper lighting is something I’ve come to appreciate with each passing day. From the driveway to the closet, indoor and outdoor spaces, the right lighting can enhance visibility, security and functionality. Today, I’ll share which lights we’ve found most helpful on our homestead.

Motion-Sensing Lighting on the Homestead

Let’s start with the unsung heroes – motion-sensing lights. These have become the guardians of my homestead, ensuring that every step is illuminated and every movement is detected. We’re going to skip the usual floodlight units you see mounted to a junction box. Today we’re discussing completely integrated motion-sensing bulbs.

GE LED+ PAR38 Floodlight Bulbs

The GE LED+ Motion Sensor LED Light Bulbs Security Light, PAR38 Outdoor Floodlight have really made dark nighttime arrivals and departures a breeze. We’re no longer getting in and out of vehicles in dim or no light, with slippery ice. I also plan to use these in other areas like the firewood area to make this a hands-free area to easily gather firewood on occasion without switches.

Automatic lights like these should also discourage unwelcome nocturnal visitors from getting too comfortable around areas you will be using.

AmeriTop Motion Sensor Bulbs

My AmeriTop Motion Sensor Light Bulbs have really proven their worth. The 10W LED bulbs, 60W equivalent, have made our utility closet warmer and easier to see. This means no more stumbling in the dark when I enter my closet – the light automatically springs to life, showing me my tools or vacuum. I admit though it took me a few months to let my brain adjust to not looking for the light switch any more. Now that I am used to it I just open the door and voila! Light!

Portable Lighting on the Homestead

My Go-To Flashlight

The Dewalt 20V MAX LED 1500 Lumens Spotlight is my go-to light for so many things. It can light up the tree line, and it is the best companion for getting firewood in the cold dark winter. Is the dog barking? Use this spotlight to scan for hogs. It’s among the brightest most useful portable lights I have. As you can probably tell it’s my favorite, this one wins top spot in my lighting arsenal.

Work Lighting

When it comes to heavy-duty lighting, the DEWALT 20V MAX LED Work Light with 3000 lumens is a game-changer. The tripod base allows me to easily position the light at the perfect height and angle, making it an ideal companion for any task. Whether I’m working on a project in the garage or need ambient softer illumination for photography, this light with its sturdy tripod base delivers unmatched brightness and flexibility. The telescoping pole extends the light head to 7 feet to reduce shadows and glare, which is great for taking pictures for our blog or videos for our youtube channel.

From motion-sensing bulbs in the closet to powerful outdoor floodlights, investing in quality lighting solutions has improved life on the homestead. As the sun sets, we’re prepared to do our work indoors or outdoors.
