Our Edging Problem

Originally this curb or edging was made of railroad ties. Rotting Railroad Ties. There were weeds and bermuda that had made their home in the ties and we were pretty sure that critters were making their home there underneath and inside the ties themselves. We needed a solution, and we wanted something more permanent. We could have chosen a more refined edging but for the price, functionality, and depth and width of these concrete blocks, they could not be beat. These blocks will hold back all the soil and rocks we can throw at them. The only thing was how to build this curb and to to join it to the wall we build on the end earlier.

We ripped out all the old railroad ties and put in our own custom concrete curb edge for the rocks. See how we made this happen in our Three Part Series.

Our Concrete Block Wall

This is how it all started. We tore out the railroad ties here and the nandinas in order to have less organic matter next to the house. Less dirt, less wood, less leaves. This went fairly well for the first attempt using these blocks. We chose the 8x8x16 blocks for their strength to hold up this area of the wall so high. Backed up by dry poured concrete we created a firm wall that the kids think is a great bench seat.
