About Homestead Y’all
Howdy, welcome to Homestead Y’all, We are Mr. and Mrs. H. We’re two desert city people who decided to buy a homestead in the great state of Texas. Seeking to live better and more traditionally, we’ve only just begun the journey. We’re glad you’re here to learn to homestead with us. So why are we homesteading in Texas?
What is Homestead Y’all?
Homestead Y’all is the name of our website and our YouTube channel. Our hope is to help others get started and share our learning along the way.
How we became homesteaders
How did this happen? This one is hard to pin down, but it goes something like this. Almost simultaneously, we started watching videos of families who were traveling around the United States in their RV’s, or homesteading, or just gardening or cooking. Soon, we learned more about healthy eating and living. Also, starting a family and raising children gave us a new perspective. Before moving to Texas we spent about a month living and traveling around in Texas while working remote. We found our new home on the very last day of our trip.
What is life like homesteading in Texas?
While we love the desert, we realized that we could not grow food as easily in the desert as in other parts of the country. Texas has been great and we’ve made new friends who share our interests and goals. Texas is hot and humid, with lots of sunshine. The bermuda is great for animals and hay but not for gardens. Since Texas culture varies greatly across the state, so you can find what you like in some part of the state.
Why homesteading?
Homesteading is just one facet of what we are after. Firstly, we are focused on a lifestyle centered on Jesus Christ, healthy eating and growing our own food. Before homesteading, we also started to realize all the things we didn’t know how to do, sometimes because we never learned, and other times because we never needed to know. Now, we are building our own skills to learn what our ancestors used to know.
