We LOVE this sweet cornbread recipe! I have tried so many various recipes that are either too dry, too bland, too dense, etc. This combination seems to be the best for us! Everyone has an opinion about how cornbread should taste though! If you like a light and sweet cornbread, this could be the recipe for you! This pairs so well with our crockpot chili recipe, bbq, or just as a snack. Our kids enjoy having a piece anytime of the day when we have it available in the kitchen!

We hope you give our cornbread a try! Let me know if you like it with a comment below!

I highly suggest using organic cornmeal since corn is often genetically modified, and always opt for aluminum free baking powder. I linked the ones we use below!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 1 cornmeal, medium grind

  • 1 cup 1 all purpose flour

  • 2/3 cup 2/3 sugar

  • 4 teaspoons 4 baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 kosher sea salt

  • 1 cup 1 whole milk

  • 1/3 cup 1/3 avocado oil, butter, or any neutral oil

  • 1 large 1 egg

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 400F.
Line 8×8 or 9×9 pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix together dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
    Add wet ingredients.
    Mix well.
  • Pour into baking dish.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center. (see notes)
  • Allow to cool slightly before cutting. Serve with honey and butter for a sweet treat!

Notes

  • If you are making other items at the same time, I have also baked it successfully at 350F for 30-35 minutes.
  • I have also made it with 1/2 cups of sugar instead for a slightly less sweet cornbread.
